New Media Industries

During this semester, I have learned many different things. From lessons about credit cards to the metaverse, I have taken it all in like a sponge.

The First Lesson

One of my favorite lessons from this semester came from one of the very first days. Walking into the Innovation Hub was a nerve-wracking and exciting experience as it was a building I had never been in before. There were so many people already in there that the only seat available for me was on the floor. Which for me was a great spot.

As Megan Ward walked around the room and told each of us how we should handle our credit cards and how to look into our credit scores, I was taking down every single word she said. For one of the first times in my learning career, I was being taught how to be an adult. It was a breath of fresh air because it made me feel like I was truly being prepared for the “real world.”

I walked away from that class period immediately calling my boyfriend and telling him everything I had just learned. I will be taking this lesson and the notes I took during it with me into my future.

Speakers

Throughout this course we had many speakers come in to talk to our class. With each speaker, I felt like they had been handpicked for a different reason that culminated into one big reason, we can do anything. Every single speaker that Megan Ward had come to her class spoke on vastly different topics but all had the same message in the end, you can do whatever you set your mind to.

As a young woman who is still very confused about what she wants to do after she graduates, which is approaching soon, it was a comforting message. Each professional was at a different stage in their life and their career but each one had once been in my shoes. They had all approached their graduation differently but they all had one thing in common, they had set their minds to something and they had done it. It was a huge confidence boost for me.

After each speaker, I walked away feeling more confident about my graduation and my future. I felt like they had each given me a little gift of knowledge. I have appreciated these gifts of knowledge more than the speakers will ever know.

I thank Megan Ward for always bringing the best energy into the room and for choosing such amazing speakers for this semester. It felt like she had chosen them just for me and I will appreciate that for the rest of my career, whatever that may be.
